Would a stairlift make your life easier?

Is your handicap stopping you from fully enjoying your home? Does your handicap make getting up and down the stairs a daily chore you would rather avoid? If so, why don’t you take a moment to consider a stairlift?

There is a wide range of stairlifts available, from a wide range of stairlift suppliers. These include stairlifts for narrow, wide, straight, curved and outdoor staircases. This means that you, or the person you are buying the handicap stairlift for, will be able to get a stairlift to suit their needs exactly.

A Stairlift

Handicap stairlifts come with many advantages, including the fact that stair lifts will enable you to regain your confidence and independence. Stairlifts also ensure that moving up and down the stairs is as pain free as possible for both the person who is handicapped and the person that usually helps them up the stairs. Stairlifts also make the process of going up and down the stairs safer and easier for all parties involved. This is due to the fact that, not only does the stairlift take the user up and down the stairs with ease, it also has extra built in features that help the user to get on and off the stairlift easily.

Some suppliers of stairlifts also offer perched stairlifts which enables people who have problems bending their knees to stand up while the stairlift takes them smoothly to the top or bottom of the stairs. This is another way manufacturers and suppliers of stairlifts have found to reduce the pain that people, including those with a handicap, feel when tackling the stairs.

Do you have a straight staircase?

Do you struggle to climb the stairs in your house? Do you have a straight staircase? Well then a straight stairlift might be the solution to your mobility problems.

There are a range of stairlifts available which allows you to be sure that you will be buying the right one for you. This includes stairlifts suitable for straight, curved, and outdoor stairs, as well as those for people that struggle bending their knees. The stairlift addressed here is the most common; the straight stairlift.

A Straight Stairlift

A Straight Stairlift

The straight stairlift is for just that, people with stairs that are straight. It has many features which makes it easy and extremely safe to use.

Some of the features that address safety issues when using a straight stairlift include dual electronic and mechanical braking systems, limit sensors and 24 volt DC operation.  The braking systems ensure that there is absolutely no chance of the stairlift freefalling towards the bottom of a flight of stairs. Limit sensors are positioned on the footrest of the stairlift and ensure that if the stairlift senses an obstruction, it will come to a stop to avoid any accidents taking place. Also, the 24 volt DC ensures safety is maintained when using the stairlift because it avoids using mains electricity. This makes sure that if there is a mains power cut, the stairlift will still take you safely and smoothly to the top or bottom of the stairs without getting stranded half way up the stairs.

So all in all, a straight stairlift allows you to travel up and down your stairs easily, safely and comfortably.

Struggle with the stairs? Struggle bending your knees?

Do you have stairs in your home? Do you struggle getting up and down them? Are they narrow or do you struggle bending your knees? Answered yes to most or all of these questions? Then a perched stairlift might be exactly what you need.

Perched Stairlift

Perched Stairlift

Perched stairlifts allow people who either have narrow stairs or people that struggle bending their knees to get the help they need when ascending or descending their stairs. These stairlifts enable people who cannot, or find it uncomfortable to, bend their knees sufficiently to allow them to sit down on a normal straight stairlift to stand or perch on this stairlift so that they have as comfortable journey as possible up and down the stairs.

Perch stairlifts include many of the same features as the straight and curved stairlifts; however, they allow people to stand up to travel up and down the stairs. This may not sound like the safest way to travel but the perch stairlift has been designed with the users’ safety as the top priority. This means that features were included in the perch stairlift for example a seatbelt to ensure the user is securely fastened to the stairlift while it is in use.

The perched stairlift also has the same comfort and safety features as both straight and curved stairlifts, including wireless remote controls, rack and pinion drive, soft start and stop technology and whisper quiet operation. These features enable the perch stairlift to be both comfortable and functional in homes.

So don’t worry if you have problems bending your knees, or have narrow stairs, simply ask about perched stairlifts.

Are you having trouble with outdoor steps?

Are steps getting in between you and your garden? Why not solve this problem with an outdoor stairlift?

Outdoor stairlifts have all of the features included in their indoor stair lifts, but are designed and manufactured specifically for outdoor use. Consequently, they are an ideal solution for situations involving any staircase that is exposed to the elements, including garden steps, sun decks, porches, front steps, and garage or basement steps.

The outdoor stair lift is also very popular with those lucky enough to live in beach homes, as it is well protected from the ravages of salt air.

Outdoor stairlifts come with all the functionality and safety features of indoor stairlifts, including dual electronic and mechanical braking systems; limit sensors; 24 volt DC operation; infra-red remote operation and a swivel seat. These features enable the outdoor stairlift to be practical and functional.

Outdoor stairlifts are able to effectively resist the elements and still manage to function safely and correctly due to a number of different features that are included when manufacturing the stair lift. These include the fact that all the metallic components are either made in aluminium, or are oil annealed or zinc plated before powder coating. Also, all of the plastic components are heat and UV resistant, protecting the stair lift from colour fading and ambient heat damage. And, as well as these features, the outdoor stairlift comes with a durable plastic cover which will keep off accumulations of leaves and snow that might occur in the garden.

Should I buy or rent a stairlift?

Many people worry about spending large amounts of money unnecessarily. However, be assured that when buying a stairlift rather than renting one, you are certainly not wasting money; far from it.

Despite everyone’s perception that renting a stairlift would save them money, it most probably wouldn’t in the long run. Renting a stairlift would cost less than buying one if the user only needed it for approximately 3 months. However, any longer than that and you will end up spending more on renting a stairlift than if you had simply bought one.

Therefore, buying a stairlift instead of renting one has the benefit of saving you a significant amount of money.

Other benefits of buying a stairlift over renting one include:

  • Buying a stairlift doesn’t involve agreeing to a fixed term or contract. When renting a stair lift, this fixed term could result in you paying a lot more money than you have to.
  • If you do not need the stairlift anymore, you can make some money by selling it, whereas you simply return a rented stairlift with no benefits for yourself.
  • You will be purchasing a new stairlift, meaning it will definitely be in good condition.
  • Although rented stairlifts will have been serviced before they are given to you, the people servicing them did not manufacture the stair lift themselves, resulting in them not having the in-depth knowledge that comes with buying a stairlift.

Are used or new stairlifts better?

Choosing which stairlift to buy is a big decision which needs much consideration. You want the most reliable stairlift possible, but yet you also want your stair lift to be good value for money.

The debate between buying a new or old stairlift has been going on between stairlift suppliers for a long time now. However, buying a new stairlift is always the safer option and is therefore more likely to give the user complete peace of mind. This is due to the fact that the stairlift will have been designed and manufactured by people that know stairlifts inside out and backwards, whereas a used stairlift might not have even been serviced and tested properly.

Another factor that would make me more relaxed about having a stairlift is the fact that a new stairlift will come with a guarantee which means that if anything goes wrong with it within a certain period of time then I wouldn’t have to fork out more money on trying to fix it. This is the opposite for a used stairlift as a used stairlift will come with minimal guarantee, if any at all.

As well as the above benefits, there are also the following benefits of buying a new stairlift rather than an old one:

  • The stair lift will be customised specifically to fit your needs
  • The new stairlift won’t have been used by anyone else
  • New stairlifts will be professionally installed by the supplier
  • New stairlifts are more reliable and less likely to break down than old ones
  • Even if the old stairlift has been serviced, the company servicing the stair lift won’t have the in-depth knowledge that the manufacturers have and this could result in the stairlift not being as safe
  • More models are available when purchasing a new stairlift
  • New stairlifts have more features available to choose from, including a folding up footrest

Stairlifts: the cheap alternative

Do you find climbing up and down your stairs a bit more difficult than it used to be? Worried about having to move to a bungalow just to avoid your stairs? Instead of worrying, may be you should consider a stairlift.

People sometimes have a preconception that getting a stairlift is going to cost them the earth and just be a hassle. However, this is not true at all.

When purchasing a stairlift, the initial outlay can seem a bit daunting, but just think how much money it would cost you and how much more hassle it would be to move from your house to a house without stairs.  When you think like that it seems a cheap price to pay to be able to stay in the home you love.

Another type of price to pay might be the factor of the damage a stairlift might do to your home and consequently what the cost will be to repair that damage. Well, with fairly new stairlift technology, stairlifts are now able to fit to the stairs and not the wall, so there will be no structural damage at all. This will consequently save a lot of time and money in repairs.

Overall, although stairlifts may look fairly expensive at a glance, when you take an extra moment to think about it, a stair lift will be a lot cheaper than the other option which is moving to a house without stairs. Also, you don’t have to worry about damage caused by installing a stairlift costing a lot of money because using a fully trained installer will eliminate this from happening.

Are you finding your stairs difficult?

If you are finding that climbing up and down the stairs is getting more difficult, a stairlift could be the solution to your problem.

Stairlifts are mobility aids which can help disabled people tackle the stairs more easily. However, being disabled is not a requirement when buying a stairlift, so if your stairs are becoming a struggle you should consider getting a stair lift.

Stairlifts are available in a variety of forms and can be custom made to fit the needs of the user exactly. So whether you have a straight, curved, narrow or outdoor staircase that you are finding difficult to walk up and down, there will be a stairlift suitable for you. There are even stairlifts specially designed and manufactured for those of us who have difficulties bending our knees. These stairlifts are called perch stairlifts. These allow people to stand or perch on the stairlift instead of having to sit down, which can reduce any pain that sitting may cause them.

Stairlifts also come with a range of features, both as standard and optional. The features include safety features, for example a seat belt to ensure the user is secure when using the stairlift; electronic and mechanical braking systems to make sure the stairlift cannot perform an uncontrolled descent; and pressure sensitive safety surfaces which ensure the stair lift comes to a stop if there is an obstruction on the stairs. Other features of stair lifts include a swivel seat, a lockable isolation switch, and both paddle and infra-red remote controls. These all help in making the stairlift ride safe and comfortable.

All in all, stairlifts are useful, practical and reliable pieces of equipment which allow people who have difficulties with stairs to go up and down them safely and comfortably.
